President Donald Trump plans to host Anthropic boss Dario Amodei at a private White House dinner on Sunday evening. Maria Curi and Marc Caputo broke the news for Axios, citing people familiar with the matter.
It would be the first one-on-one meeting between the two, according to Axios. TNW has not independently confirmed the dinner.

Amodei missed last week’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, which OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Google’s Sundar Pichai attended, because of a scheduling conflict. Trump then invited him personally to Sunday’s dinner, Axios reported.
On Tuesday, Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are due to meet tech CEOs on AI at the White House. Johnson has said the talks will cover the companies’ responsibility to keep AI safe.
Anthropic’s ties with the White House have had ups and downs this year. In April, the White House opposed the company’s plan to widen access to its Mythos model.
In June, after meeting Amodei at the G7 summit, Trump said he no longer saw Anthropic as a national security threat. Even so, some top officials had told Trump not to meet him, Axios reported.
The dinner also comes after Amodei called this month for the whole AI industry to slow down, a call Trump has brushed aside.
“President Trump has been clear: America will lead the world in Super Intelligence, while protecting American consumers,” a White House official told Axios.

White House bars CNN from travelling with Trump on Air Force One

Broadcaster CNN has been barred from travelling with US President Donald Trump on Air Force One for a trip to Tennessee on Saturday.
The move is the latest in a battle between the White House and the media after it was forced to lift its ban on some news outlets.
CNN was scheduled to fly with Trump for his trip to Tennessee for a college American football game until a note released on Friday night by the White House did not list the broadcaster on the media schedule.
The BBC has requested comment from the White House.
CNN has reported that no other outlet was listed as replacing them in the president's tentative schedule.
Last week, Trump banned CNN, Politico and MS NOW journalists from the White House after accusing them of writing "fiction or lies" about his administration.
All three media outlets said they were pursuing legal action and accused Trump of violating their constitutional rights to free speech and freedom of the press.
Four television networks that have a daily rotation of White House coverage alongside CNN - ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC - had paused their broadcasts of the president in solidarity with the banned outlets.
The White House then launched its own streaming channel, Trump TV, ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York.
A federal judge has since ruled that Trump barring news outlets from the White House was likely unconstitutional and that the administration had to let them back in, at least for now.
However, the White House still denied entry to some CNN and MS NOW reporters assigned to cover arrivals at a state dinner for Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday.
In a series of online posts on Saturday, Trump criticised the CNN and other media outlets dubbing them "fake news".
"FAKE NEWS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE WHITE HOUSE," he said.
A White House communications account earlier posted on X that "contrary to what the Fake News wants you to believe, they don't just get to have free rein into every part of the White House, every event and every press call".

The White House on Friday night removed CNN from joining President Donald Trump on his trip to Tennessee on Saturday, where it was supposed to cover the president on behalf of major TV networks.
According to media guidance sent out by the White House on Friday night, CNN was removed from the list of outlets designated for pool coverage of Trump’s trip, in which he is set to attend a college football game in Knoxville.
The pool is a rotating group of networks that share duties of filming the president both in Washington and on official trips. Other member networks — Fox News, ABC News, CBS News and NBC News — briefly boycotted participating in the pool this week after Trump banned CNN from serving as a member.
CNN on Friday reported that it had been scheduled to fly with Trump on Air Force One on Saturday as part of its pool duties covering the president’s trip to the game between the University of Texas and the University of Tennessee. However in the president’s schedule released Friday night, CNN was not listed as a member of the pool and no other network was listed as replacing it.
The move is the latest development in the White House’s attempt to restrict access by CNN and other outlets to cover the White House. The president last week had banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from accessing the White House before a judge temporarily blocked that move Thursday and ordered the administration to restore their reporters’ credentials for 14 days.
But while the order restored the outlets’ access to the White House, it didn’t explicitly require the administration to restore CNN’s participation in the television pool.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment.

Media outlets banned by Trump resume White House coverage after judge's order

Regular US television coverage resumed on Friday after the White House was forced to lift its ban of news outlets and readmit journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico.
A federal judge had ruled on Thursday that the ban was likely unconstitutional and the administration had to let them back in, at least for now. Trump had barred them for what he called "fake news".
After the ruling on Thursday, the White House still denied entry to some CNN and MS NOW reporters assigned to cover arrivals for a state dinner for Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
But on Friday, White House officials allowed reporters entry and coverage went back to normal for the last day of Xi's visit with Trump in Washington.
Four television networks that have a daily rotation of White House coverage along with CNN - ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC - had paused their broadcasts of the president in solidarity with the banned outlets.
Despite the judge's ruling, CNN said that about an hour before Xi was scheduled to arrive for the dinner, the White House said it could cover the event only with a photojournalist and audio technician, but not a team that included a reporter and producer.
MS NOW White House reporter Laura Barron-Lopez said she was told by White House staff that she could not be let in, and to contact the White House communications director.
The BBC has contacted the White House for comment.

The incident was the latest in a series of events on Thursday surrounding the ban on some media outlets at the White House.
Despite the overnight ruling, CNN, Politico and MS NOW all reported being denied entry to the White House on Thursday morning, prompting a request for an emergency court hearing.
In response, the director of White House Operations said in a court filing that the press passes and confiscated badges had been restored by 09:45 local time (13:45 GMT).
Shortly afterwards, all three outlets said they were allowed back in.
In his ruling, Judge Timothy Kelly said the ban on the outlets should be temporarily lifted because it "likely violated their constitutional due process rights".
He cast doubt on White House claims that the ban was justified in part on national security grounds, pointing out the president made no mention of this in his initial announcement.
"The record lacks factual support for defendants' contention that the revocation of plaintiffs' hard passes will in fact protect national security," Kelly wrote.
Judge Kelly ruled CNN, Politico and MS NOW were "likely to succeed" in showing the White House had not exercised "adequate due process" in the ban.
He ordered the immediate return of the outlets' press passes and a halt to enforcement of the ban for 14 days.
In a court filing on Tuesday, the US Department of Justice had accused the news outlets of threatening national security with their coverage.
Government lawyers cited stories about missile stockpiles, the construction of the White House ballroom and the recent Republican midterm convention.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday alleged that American news outlets CNN and MSNBC refused to cover Chinese President Xi Jinping's White House visit to avoid giving him credit.
In a post on Truth social, Trump said that the two outlets did not cover the arrival of Xi Jinping and his wife, Madam Peng, at the White House, despite calling it a major event.
"CNN and MSDNC’s Ratings have dropped considerably. The primary reason is NO CREDIBILITY! They only write badly about a man who won the Election IN A GIANT LANDSLIDE, winning all 7 Swing States, the Popular Vote, and 86% of the Counties, etc., and whose Popularity has grown because of the unprecedented SUCCESS our Country is having on both the World Stage, and at home," Trump said.
“CNN and MSDNC, to show you how fake they are, today refused to cover one of the Biggest and Most Beautiful Events to take place in many years, the arrival at the White House of the Highly Respected President of China, Xi Jinping, and his beautiful wife, Madam Peng. The event was magnificent — Actually made for Television but, because they’re Fake News, and because they knew how good it would be, they didn’t want credit to be given to “TRUMP,” they refused to be there.

Earlier on Thursday, a US federal judge directed the Trump administration to restore access to journalists from CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House grounds, saying that the ban was likely unconstitutional.
US District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, issued the order in a lawsuit filed by the three media organisations challenging Trump's decision to bar them from the White House.
“The ‘general rule’ is that ‘individuals must receive notice and an opportunity to be heard before the Government deprives them’ of a constitutionally protected interest,” the judge said.
The ruling came amid an ongoing dispute between the Trump administration and media organisations over access to the White House.

David Ellison was among Trump’s White House attendees Thursday night for the state dinner commemorating Chinese President Xi Jinping’s trip to Washington, D.C.
The CEO dined with the president, despite Trump’s ongoing feud with the press this week and CNN, the news network Ellison is due to acquire in the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, being barred from covering the White House event themselves.
CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins shared the news Thursday with a full guest list for the state dinner, which was published by the White House communications team.

The executive has long courted Trump as an ally in his push for the Paramount-WBD merger, and Trump’s DOJ approved the acquisition for $110 billion in June. Along the way, the new CBS News leadership following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount has pushed the network further to the right. Ellison’s billionaire father, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, is also a longtime Trump ally.
CNN, meanwhile, was blocked from covering the state dinner at the White House on Thursday, with anchor Erin Burnett confirming the breaking news live on air just hours after a federal judge ordered White House access be granted CNN, MS NOW and Politico despite Trump’s ban over the weekend.
“CNN denied access moments ago to cover the guest arrivals of President Trump’s state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, blocked after a judge shot down Trump’s ban to keep CNN, Politico and MS NOW out of the White House grounds,” Burnett said.

Sept. 24 (UPI) — Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. counterpart Donald Trump met at the White House for bilateral talks Thursday but afterwards remained mum about what was discussed.
Trump welcomed Xi on his second day in the country with a performance by the Marine Corps Band and a flyover and a review of troops dressed in colonial uniforms. Watching the review were Vice President JD Vance, second lady Usha Vance and Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Trump said in his opening remarks that the two countries should work together. He added that during World War II, they fought on the same side.
Xi noted the respect he and Trump share for each other and invited 100,000 American students to visit China in the next five years. He also announced that two pandas will soon be loaned to the Atlanta Zoo.
Trump joked that the Chinese press corps are the friendliest after a morning battle with some members of the American White House press corps. All Chinese media are controlled by the government.
After the meeting, Xi left the White House at about 1:30 p.m. EDT, and neither said much about how it went.
“Great meeting, thank you,” Trump said to reporters’ questions. Then he walked back into the White House. The Chinese delegation climbed into cars and left.
Before the meeting, Trump emphasized that AI would be a key topic. After AI companies began expressing worry that AI could destroy humanity, Trump said that there should be no guardrails on AI except for the Department of Justice.
But Xi struck a different tone in a speech in India on Sept. 12. He said countries should “encourage open source, openness, collaboration and sharing,” and called for a global AI governance pact, but didn’t elaborate on how that would work, CNN reported.

The trio of media outlets that President Donald Trump abruptly banned from accessing the White House will be in court Wednesday to argue their expulsion was unconstitutional and should be lifted immediately.
“This ban could not be a more direct assault on the First Amendment nor a more blatant violation of our most fundamental constitutional principles,” lawyers for CNN, Politico and MS NOW said in a court filing Monday ahead of the hearing.
“The ban is unconstitutional and should be immediately restrained,” they contended, citing legal precedent in the District of Columbia and U.S. Supreme Court.
The news organizations are scheduled to make their case to U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly at a 3:30 p.m. ET hearing.
Late Tuesday, the Justice Department defended the ban in a court filing, arguing that Trump had decided the outlets “failed to maintain basic minimum ‘standards of professionalism and decorum expected of those given access to the White House Complex, including’ by ‘publishing sensitive or classified information.’”
The outlets’ “access to the White House is a privilege — not a right,” the filing said.
On Tuesday, the White House Press Office sent letters to the three outlets alleging their coverage involved “trafficking in verifiable falsehoods about national security and other issues, and publishing sensitive or classified information,” the department said in the filing. The letters also were filed in court.
The articles cited in the letters included reporting on the construction of the White House ballroom and its related military security complex, the status of munitions supplies being used in the Iran war, an alleged FBI leak investigation involving a journalist, and sanctions on Russia.
In the letters, the administration gave the organizations a deadline of 5 p.m. Friday to “contest this initial decision” to bar them from the White House or the decision “will be final,” the filing said.
The outlets did not immediately respond to NBC News’ requests for comment on the allegations in the filing.
Kelly was nominated to the bench by Trump in his first term but ruled against him in a similar case back in 2018, when the White House pulled press credentials from then-CNN reporter Jim Acosta.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump said Kelly is a “great judge” for the media outlets, and suggested he believes he’ll rule against his administration. “[A]s usual, we’ll go for appeal,” he wrote, “because Fake News people and publications that only write negatively” should not be “allowed access to the most important Office anywhere in the World.”
Trump also criticized the judge as “totally disloyal” in a separate post late Tuesday.
The three news organizations have pointed to similar remarks by Trump as proof they’re victims of impermissible “viewpoint discrimination.”
Trump announced the outlets’ ban from the White House in a Truth Social post Friday, and said it was “a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!”
“Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow,” he added.
Responding to questions from a reporter in the Oval Office a short time later, Trump referred to it as “the ban on the free press.” “Very simple ban. I don’t want them in my office. I don’t want them here,” he said.
He said the policy was in response to “cumulative stories over the last few years.”
“They purposely write negative news. And they do that because they want to try and diminish the Republicans and a Republican administration,” he said. “If they could straighten themselves out, I’d love it,” he added.
The outlets’ suit said Trump’s “words leave no doubt that banning Plaintiffs from the White House is retaliation for their protected newsgathering and speech — retaliation that is intended to cow them into changing their reporting and threaten other journalists lest they suffer the same fate. That is a paradigmatic First Amendment violation” and “flatly unconstitutional.”
The ban has already impacted news coverage, the suit says.
CNN is a member of the five-network rotation “for the primary television pool (also called the network pool) and absorbs 20% of the costs associated with such coverage,” the suit says.
The pool covers “events and locations where there is limited physical space for journalists,” their court papers say, and for “most of what the President does each day, the pool is the only source of independent reporting, video, and photographs available to the press and the public.”
“When CNN is the designated network pooler, CNN’s crew supplies the video and audio of the events involving the President and other White House officials to the other four networks and, through them and through pool distribution arrangements, to news organizations and the public. Among the recipients of the pool material are the more than 1,000 local affiliate television stations across the United States that receive the pool feed through CNN.”
NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox News are the other members of the rotation.
MS NOW is a rotating member of the secondary pool, while Politico is a member of the rotating print pool.
CNN had been scheduled to be the pool camera Monday, and the other networks in the TV network pool jointly declined to step in and replace its coverage, resulting in Trump’s remarks at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the White House being inaudible.
His remarks at the United Nations on Tuesday and alongside New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at a press conference Monday were picked up by U.N. cameras and local news outlets, respectively.
Trump defended the bans in a social media statement Monday and added a new argument — that “fake news” is a national security issue.
“The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish. It is instituting an assault on the FAKE NEWS, something that has grown like Cancer in our beloved United States of America,” he wrote. “It is a threat to our National Security, and must be stopped, NOW!”
