ICE provides info on arrests - Sedona Red Rock News
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency released an update late Tuesday, Sept. 22, about the two men arrested in West Sedona on Saturday, Sept. 19. Mexican nationals Gildardo Sanchez Sanchez, 44, and Salomon Nava Cosme, 52, were arrested by agents for allegedly violating U.S. immigration laws, according to ICE spokesman Fernando Burgos-Ortiz. The two had been living and working in Sedona, according to city spokeswoman Julie Graham. They were arrested around 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 89A and Andante Drive, according to a local employee and an eyewitness who recorded part of the interaction. “On February 22, 2006, U.S. Border Patrol apprehended Sanchez Sanchez near Sasabe, Arizona,” Burgos-Ortiz wrote. “On that same date, U.S. Border Patrol granted Sanchez Sanchez voluntary return and witnessed his departure to Mexico.” Sanchez Sanchez reentered the United States illegally, Burgos-Ortiz wrote, and was later arrested on a battery per domestic violence charge on Dec. 10, 2011, in Orange County, Florida. ICE lodged an immigration detainer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and an immigration judge in Miami ordered him removed on Jan. 23, 2012, and he was deported Jan. 31, 2012. On Feb. 14, 2012, U.S. Border Patrol apprehended him again near Silverbell, Arizona, reinstated his prior order of removal, and ICE deported him on Feb. 18, 2012, to Mexico, Burgos-Ortiz wrote. Authorities have not determined when Sanchez Sanchez most recently reentered. Authorities have not determined when or where Nava Cosme entered the United States. The two men will remain in ICE custody, according to Burgos-Ortiz. Sanchez Sanchez is awaiting removal and Nava Cosme is awaiting removal proceedings.
