Firefighter injured battling Dubuque house fire DUBUQUE, Iowa — One firefighter was taken to a hospital Thursday morning after crews responded to a house fire in Dubuque, according to the Dubuque Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 9:20 a.m. to a reported residential structure fire at 71 Lois St. Crews arrived within four minutes and found visible black smoke coming from an exterior basement access door. The fire department said firefighters forced entry into the home and advanced a hose line into the exterior basement entrance area. Crews encountered heavy smoke and found a fire involving materials stored in the basement. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the home to remove smoke. The fire was contained to the area where it started, with no significant extension to other parts of the home, according to the department. No civilians were injured. One firefighter was taken from the scene for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. The Dubuque Fire Department estimated preliminary property and contents loss at $8,000. The fire remains under investigation, but officials said it has not been determined to be suspicious.
